Beany GreenSouth Bank, London

"Under Waterloo Bridge with the Thames on the doorstep. The cortado is consistently well made, and the sourcing choices tell you this isn't running on location alone."

What we love

  • Rude Heath coconut milk stocked as standard; a deliberate call over the usual Alpro default.
  • Cortado on the menu and executed properly.
  • Flat mocha done well; the drink most espresso bars get wrong.
  • Thames-side under Waterloo Bridge, useful if you're moving between Tate Modern and the National Theatre.

Origin Coffee★★★ Purist

Origin Coffee is a Cornwall roastery. At Scoresby Street, that means named single origins on the menu, a rotating filter programme, and baristas who know the sourcing story behind every cup.

The Colombian Coffee Company★★ Specialty

The arch under Flat Iron Square is a working roastery, and the coffee tastes like it. House-roasted Colombian single origins, with staff who treat the bean selection as part of the service.

Calico Coffee★★ Specialty

Several pour-overs, staff who understand the bean differences, and a room designed around nothing but the coffee.
