A flat white that holds its own against Edinburgh's better cafes, in a shop that also sells vintage ballcaps and local ceramics. Worth the walk along the seafront.
A van on the Portobello promenade that runs espresso as the main event, not background to the sea air. Go for the affogato.
A bakery on Portobello High Street where the espresso outperforms its billing. The crowd comes for the pastries; the coffee makes it worth the trip on its own.
On the Portobello seafront, the coffee has its own following, independent of the food. That puts it ahead of most venues on the strip.
Fortitude espresso alongside Edinburgh's best sourdough, a two-minute walk from the Portobello promenade. Coffee deliberate enough that they sell retail bags to take home.
Portobello beach does most of the persuading. The organic sourcing is genuine enough to earn a second cup once you're there.
